About the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx)

The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) is the professional association for 20,000 Chartered Legal Executive lawyers, paralegals and other legal practitioners in England and Wales.

Founded in 1892, the Institute of Legal Executives became a company limited by guarantee in 1963 with the support and co-operation of the Law Society. On 30 January 2012, we became incorporated by Royal Charter and are now known as the ‘Chartered Institute of Legal Executives’. In 2013, we celebrated 50 years of legal careers.

CILEx as a professional association provides professional development, support and guidance to its members. It delivers legal education and training through CILEx Law School, qualifications through its Awarding Body function and independent regulation through CILEx Regulation.
