John Hancock initially enrolled on a Contract Law course to help him better understand his role as a bid manager for an IT firm. That sparked his interest in the law in general, and he has recently become a Graduate Member of CILEx (GCILEx) after completing his CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice
I spent 18 years in the travel industry, starting with a local travel agent and finishing up as the UK Client Care Manager. My interest in law started when I was working in the customer services department of part of the British Airways Group, looking into cases where the customer threatened to take legal action. This meant I liaised a lot with our in-house Legal Department, which I really enjoyed.
After more than twenty years as a customer service manager I elected for a career change and successfully applied for a position as a litigation officer with an energy company. Agreeing to study for the CILEx qualifications was a prerequisite to securing my new role.
When I left school I qualified as a chef. I worked in one of the top hotels in London and the hours were long. I eventually moved back down to Poole and worked in a few restaurants in the area but it wasn’t really what I wanted to do.
