Legal secretarial and paralegal course information

The page below provides additional information for key units of the legal secretarial and legal studies qualifications. Depending on which qualification you are working towards, you will study a combination of the units below. You will also find this information on your course pages on the VLE.

We recommend that you work on one unit at a time.  Then once you have passed one, you can move on to the next unit.

Unit 201 The Legal Environment is an online, multiple choice, supervised exam.  You have a manual to work through for this unit, along with activities for each chapter on your VLE.  There is also a Mock exam available for some extra practice.  The questions are marked straight away, and you can practice them as many times as you like.  Once you are ready to take the exam, complete the assignment request form on the VLE.  You will need to arrange a date with your supervisor giving us one months’ notice.  We will email the log in details and the software download to your supervisor directly closer to the date of the exam.

Under unit 220 on your VLE, you will be able to access the legal forms, instructions as to how to download these are also available.  You will need access to these when you come to the Family Law chapter.

We recommend that you do the tasks throughout the book to get as much practice as possible.  The suggested answers for the tasks can be found on the VLE.  When you have worked through the course manual, there are sample assignments on your VLE.  The PDF sample assignments have the recommended answers following the assignment.  We also have a Mock assignment available for this unit.  When you feel ready to do so, you can complete the Mock and submit.  This is treated in the exact same way as your assessed will be.  The Mock exam is optional, however recommended.  Once you have the feedback from your tutor for this, you can then request to take the assessed assignment.  If you do not attempt the Mock, then you can request the assessed as soon as you feel ready to do so.

This is a supervised unit and therefore you will need to arrange for a supervisor to invigilate you.  This can be any professional person as long as they are not living with you nor related to you.  The assessment is sent directly to your supervisor.  When you are ready to take your assessed assignment and have a supervisor in place, you will need to complete the assignment request form on the VLE and send it back as instructed.  You choose the date and time of the assessment; however, this must be at least two weeks away from the date of the request.

Please be advised that you have two attempts for this unit where the full grade range is available (Pass, Merit, Distinction).  Unfortunately, if you fail both of these attempts, your result will then be capped at a Pass grade for your next attempt.

You will receive a manual for the Legal Audio Processing unit.  You should read through this manual and familiarise yourself with each of the departments of law.  There are practice tasks in the manual for you to work through.  The audio files for these are found on your VLE.

Once you have read the manual, you can complete the sample assignment on the VLE.
