I enrolled on the CILEx courses with CILEx Law School (then ITC) when I was 18. I studied in the evenings a few times a week, and at the weekend and finished my studies when I was 22, and qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive at 23 in September 2012. All in all it took me 5 years.
In February 2013 I took up a position with a legal 500 firm in Jersey within the family department, and have undertaken advocacy in County Courts, Principal Registry and Magistrates Court.
I think the CILEx route is a great alternative route into law, and I’m very happy I chose it. I have amassed a great deal of experience within legal practice whilst completing my studies. I am also in a very strong position to qualify as a solicitor, which was my original aim, as the CILEx route exempts me from the training contract, and I am now continuing my studies with a view to becoming dual qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive and solicitor.
