Getting in to a law firm at the ground floor – Marie Townley

I started working at my local law firm as a part-time receptionist twelve years ago, and later moved into a secretarial role. Seven years ago I started working for the partner in charge of the wills and probate department.

I started drafting wills, doing the powers of attorney (general and lasting) and dealing with clients and this is a large part of my job now under supervision.

Some of my work colleagues had studied CILEx courses and I had been thinking about doing the course for a while before I finally enrolled at the age of 44. I wish I had done it sooner, as the whole experience has been really quite life changing. My confidence has been boosted and I really feel that I am finally doing something worthwhile with my career.

My employer is funding my course and is keen for me to start fee earning as soon as possible. The courses are exceptional and I am really keen to continue to the next stage.
