CILEx Law School selected to deliver DWP prosecution course

Twenty-six caseworkers from the prosecution divisions of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Department of Health (DH) have begun studying a new qualification developed by CILEx Law School.

The new course, launched in Birmingham on 4 March 2009, is similar to the caseworker course that CILEx Law School has delivered to the Crown Prosecution Service for over ten years, but with a specially-written section on DWP/DH procedures. The Certificate in DWP/DH Prosecutions was designed in consulation with senior DWP staff, including Head of Prosecutions, Sally-Ann Downey.

The idea for the course came about following a Prosecutors’ Practice Group meeting convened by CILEx Law School in May 2008, which was attended by DWP representatives including Mike Harney, who said: ‘It’s hard to believe it has taken less than 12 months to get the whole programme off the ground.”
