An CILEx Law School student has completed all the subjects needed to become a Graduate Member of ILEX in just two years. Johanna Issa, who works at Oldham Council, studied and passed ten units for the ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice in 2008-09 and a further six units for the ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice in 2009-10. Johanna learned of her success when ILEX announced the results of the June 2010 exam session earlier this month.
A delighted Johanna said: ” Having completed my law degree almost 17 years ago, I only took up a job in the profession six years ago when I joined Oldham Council as a legal assistant in the Family Dept.
Whilst I have conduct of a number of cases before the courts, it soon became apparent that family work is highly contentious and I felt that my qualifications were not suited to practice. I decided to undertake ILEX as recommended by a number of colleagues who had completed their training with CILEx Law School. Being able to complete my studies by distance learning allowed me to accelerate my studies in order to qualify as a fellow within the shortest time possible. I can really see the benefit of the practical knowledge gained from my studies. The tutor support has been invaluable and the manuals provide a clear understanding of the relevant law and practice necessary to work in this profession. I would highly recommend undertaking ILEX as a way to qualify as a lawyer from my own experience.”
Noel Inge, Managing Director of CILEx Law School said: “To work through all the units required at both Level 3 and Level 6 in two years is a remarkable feat and we congratulate Johanna whole-heartedly on her achievement. Johanna had to sit the entire qualification despite having a law degree because her degree was obtained more than seven years before she started studying with us. The three law subjects, one practice subject and two professional skills subjects included in the ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice are all at honours-degree or LPC level and I am most impressed that any student could achieve these in one year while working full time.”
