The Festival of Learning (previously Adult Learners’ Week), taking place during May and June 2016, is a national celebration of the benefits of learning. CILEx Law School provides distance learning courses for exams set by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx). We currently have over 3,700 students located across England and Wales, most of whom are adult learners returning to study after several years already in the workplace. Many of our students become Chartered Legal Executive lawyers, often despite leaving school with few academic qualifications.
Since most of our students are studying with us while in full-time employment, it is essential that we deliver excellent customer service to ensure our students progress well, despite their physical distance from the law school. Our results are always above the national average for CILEx exams. In our most recent student survey in March 2016, 93% of respondents rated CILEx Law School’s customer service as “good” or “very good”.
Our excellent customer service rating is a reflection of our own learning ethos. Our 11-strong Customer Service Team are required, as part of their contract of employment, to enrol on one of our qualifications. This means that each member of the team can speak knowledgeably from personal experience about our course materials, course structure and support resources. CST members are encouraged to continue their studies for the duration of their employment with us. This offers them the option to progress beyond their initial qualification if they wish to, so that lifelong learning is embedded in our company culture.
Our Customer Service Team leader, Diane Buck says: “Completing CILEx Law School courses has not only helped me empathise and relate to our students, it has also helped me in my everyday life outside of work. I am now aware of the mechanics of legal activities such as writing a will or the elements of an employment contract and handling my affairs more confidently as a result.”
