Three students have passed the five ILEX Level 3 units necessary to achieve an ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice in the shortest possible timeframe. Courses for the new qualification were introduced in July 2008 and the first exam sitting was in January 2009. The results were announced in early April.
The versatility of the new qualification is demonstrated by the Certificates being achieved by three different combinations of law and practice subjects – Contract and Civil Litigation; Tort and Civil Litigation; and Employment Law and the Practice of Employment Law.
Julie Jenkins, an employee of Mogers in Bath, who until recently worked as a legal secretary, commented: “I have just learned that I am the first CILEx Law School student, sponsored by a law firm, to have achieved my ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice (Civil Litigation), having completed the five units in a period of six months. The five courses that I needed to study for the Certificate have really increased my knowledge and confidence. I was a legal secretary when I started, but I am now a fee-earner in the litigation department, working as a trainee legal executive and I have put into practice much of what I learnt in my contract and civil litigation courses. For example I have recently given advice on counter offers to a client on the telephone.
I am now working towards the five remaining units for my ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice.”
Chris Nunn, who has achieved the ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice (Employment Practice) was inspired to study law when he received advice from a legal executive on an employment matter, and is now hoping to gain employment in the legal environment himself.
