From legal secretary to Graduate Member of CILEx

Suki Sambhi’s exam successes announced last week mean that she has achieved all the units that make up the CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice and she is now a Graduate Member of CILEx. She is a great example of the commitment of many of our students who gain their qualifications while juggling many other commitments. She said:

“I started studying for my CILEx exams when I was working as a legal secretary and was also a single mother following a divorce. I knew that I wanted to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive and so have studied in the evenings over the last four years to get through all the exams. My firm, Squire Sanders LLP, has sponsored me all the way through. I am now working in the Insolvency and Restructuring department which I enjoy and the knowledge acquired from studying for the CILEx exams has proved to be invaluable.

Working while studying has not been easy. At times I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel but today I feel really proud as I got a distinction in my final exam and feel that all the studying was worth it in the end. I now need to fulfil my qualifying employment requirements to become a Fellow of CILEx.”

Suki’s manager, Daniel French, a partner at Squire Sanders (UK) LLP, said: “It has been our pleasure to support Suki through her studies and are delighted that she has achieved her CILEX qualification. We have no doubt that her new skill set will be of benefit to our organisation and will further enhance the service we deliver to our clients.”

Many CILEx Law School students come to their CILEx studies through being taken on in legal secretarial positions and then being recognised as having development potential by their employers.
