Quick start guide

Welcome to CILEx Law School! We are delighted you are studying with us and we look forward to supporting you. This page provides essential information on how to get started with your studies.

What happens next?

Upon purchase, you should have received an email with key information about your course and what to do next. Please read the information carefully and complete any next steps as directed.

Once your order has been processed, you will have access to the CLS Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the CLS Hub. If you have previously studied with us, you can use your existing login details. If this is your first time studying with us, you will receive an email with temporary login details.

We will also dispatch any hard copy materials included in your course fee in the post. We aim to deliver course materials within 14 days of receipt of your order, or 28 days if you live overseas.

If you haven’t already done so, you should also register on the CLS portal to check that your details are correct on the ‘My profile‘ page and the ‘My preferences‘ page to ensure that you receive the information and updates you need.

Safe sender list

We will use your email address to keep in touch with you about your course. Please add us to your email contacts to ensure that we are recognised as a safe sender. We don’t want you to miss out on any important information due to our emails being wrongly categorised as junk or spam. The most common email addresses that we use are:

Frequently asked questions

Below are some general FAQs relating to studying with CLS. You can find more course-specific FAQs in our Resources section and on the How our CILEx courses work page.

Your course is on the CLS Hub. You will have a course page for each course that you have enrolled on. The course page is designed to provide you with all the study materials you will need to complement the course manual, and to lead you through the course from start to finish.

A list of your course pages will appear under ‘Courses’ which is accessible from the home page when you log in. If you do not see a course for a unit that you have enrolled on, please contact us on 01234 844300.

As a CLS student you have access to the CLS Hub and its course materials and forums.

You can access it by clicking on the ‘Student area’ tab at the top of the page or by clicking the link below. You will need to have your log-in details to hand.

CLS recently launched a new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the CLS Hub, to replace our existing Student Area. We are currently in the process of migrating courses from the Student Area to the new VLE. Please check the page below for information on which platform you should use to access your courses:

At CILEx Law School we describe our courses as being delivered by ‘supported distance learning’. This means that your course is conducted online and you study at your own pace: you are studying in your own time and at your preferred location, but you have access to a lot of resources and support from us. This gives you complete flexibility to study and work at the same time.

Our Academic and Customer Service Teams are with you as you go along. While the format, and therefore delivery, will vary depending on the course, the resources we offer includes:

  • Our Academic Team – this team of experts in the legal field are available by phone, email or online to answer course queries or help you understand study topics
  • Our Customer Service Team – often the first port of call for our students, all team members have studied/ are studying our courses and can give you tailored advice from course selection to where to find resources and materials
  • Our Student Area – this e-learning platform gives you online access to a wealth of resources, which can range from multiple-choice quizzes to study exercises and webinars
  • Our course materials – all of our courses come with tailored materials which we edit and publish

This will depend on the type of unit that you have enrolled on, as our materials are designed to prepare you for the assessment for that unit. There is a brief overview of your course resources on our website, but for detailed information, please refer to the Course Handbook.

Whether you have recently completed a qualification or are returning to study after a prolonged break, brushing up on your study skills will help you study more efficiently and maximise your chances of course success. If you would like some guidance on improving your study techniques please get in touch with us.
